Rider Safety Instructions
This is a bike ride, not a race. The courses are on OPEN ROADS with motor vehicles. Please be careful and follow all rules listed below!
-
All riders must follow the Rules of the Road, as defined in the California Vehicle Code. It is important to follow traffic laws. Stop at ALL stop signs and lights, and ride within the bike lanes unless passing. All riders must ride on the right-hand side of the road, not ride across the centerline, and ride single file. Police and Sheriffs patrol this route and will ticket for traffic law violations.
-
All Riders MUST wear approved helmets while riding in this event. Riders without helmets will not be allowed to start.
-
All riders MUST have a bike number and wristband on the course for safety and access to SAG.
-
Come prepared. We strongly suggest you bring at least TWO water bottles FULL of water/fluid and your perfered nutrition. While there are snacks, water, and electrolite at each SAG location, if you have dietary restrictions it is a good idea to have something that you can have with you just in case. It is also suggested to bring your cell phone, bike tool kit and a spare tire in case of emergency. There are mobile mechanics on course but they do not have unlimited supplies. In consideration of your safety, do not wear earpieces.
-
Ride Marshalls will be riding on all courses. They will be wearing helmet covers and have bike cards. They are cyclists like you, and are present to encourage safe and legal riding and to increase your safety. Please be considerate and follow their advice, if offered.
-
Use the toilets provided at the SAG Stops only, please!
-
If a rider is unable to continue, he/she should move to a safe place off the road and signal a race vehicle for assistance, or call the dispatcher number provided on the bike card or cue sheet.
